Erin Murphy
Erin Murphy is Senior Litigation Counsel at the Arizona Justice Project, where she represents clients who have been wrongfully convicted or are facing manifest injustice in state and federal post-conviction proceedings. She brings over 20 years of experience in criminal defense, post-conviction advocacy, and legal education to her work advancing fairness and accountability in the justice system.
Before joining AJP in 2025, Erin served as an Associate Professor at Yeungnam University Law School in South Korea, where she taught courses on American criminal law, constitutional law, criminal procedure, and international human rights. She also supervised student research, launched community-based advocacy projects, advised on international law, and raised funds for local charities. Earlier in her career, Erin worked as both a public defender and private defense attorney, representing indigent clients in trial and post-conviction matters.
Erin began her legal career at Georgetown University Law Center, where she co-led the Innocence Project, worked with Families Against Mandatory Minimums, and taught through the Street Law program in correctional and treatment facilities. These experiences shaped her lifelong commitment to post-conviction and reentry work.
Outside of her legal practice, Erin enjoys traveling, letter writing, scuba diving, and exploring all forms of art.
